What is DLC trying to do in our neighborhood?

David Lawrence Centers “DLC” is looking to secure a zoning change to create another facility that would house almost 30 men struggling with mental health and drug addiction in our family friendly neighborhood.
In order to do this, the master plan of Golden Gate Estates needs to be changed and a zoning request would have to be approved by the Board of Collier County Commissioners.
They’re planning on the building being 18,000 square feet and right next to a home that’s on the lot already….David Lawrence would build the facility with 24 single occupancy rooms right next to a house

Why is the community opposed to this plan?
DLC already has two facilities in our community within a mile of eachother. While we agree with DLC’s mission we do not agree with adding a facility in a residential neighborhood.
Having almost 30 males coming out of a psychiatric hospital with drug addictions creates a very big risk for the safety of our neighborhood. Many families with young children live here and there is a daycare facility within a hundred feet of the proposed facility.
The property has already been utilized for a traditional sober home with six residents. The Collier County Sheriff’s Department report show that between April of 2019 and August of 2022 the police made 14 visits to that property. With these neighborhood disturbances in mind, David Lawrence Centers should not be trusted with a larger scope.
Collier County’s current zoning allows for six different people from different families to live in one house. Sober housing is important to maintain the sobriety of recovering addicts and is a great idea but should be done sensibly.
